SJ 14 Acupuncture Point(Jianliao) belongs to the San Jiao meridian of Hand-Shaoyang,which is commonly used for shoulder and arm pain, paralysis of the upper limbs, and inflammation around the shoulder joints. puncture 1 to 1.5 cun straight.

SJ 14 Acupuncture Point Location

On shoulder, posterior to LI 15(Jianliao) point, in a depression inferior and posterior to the acromion when arm is abducted.

What is the meaning of Jianliao

Jianliao:”Jian”,shoulder, refer to the point is located on the shoulder; Liao, pores. The name of “Jianliao” means that the Qi of San Jiao Meridian turns into the rain, and cools down returns to the ground. The substance of this point is the Yang-qi from SJ 13(Naohui) point. When it reaches at the point, it will become cold dampness-qi due to heat dissipation,and the Qi will return to the ground after cooling down,like falling raindrops from the pores,Hence the name.

SJ 14 Acupuncture Point Therapy

Massage therapy

  • Use thumb, index finger and middle finger to pinch SJ 14 point on both sides, once a day in the morning and evening, 3 to 5 minutes each time,which can remove rheumatism, dredge meridian and relieve shoulder pain.
  • First massage Waiguan acupoint with the pad of index finger for 1 minute, then massage Zhangmen acupoint for 2 minutes, and finally massage Jianliao acupoint for 3 minutes,which can relieve Intercostal neuralgia.

Moxibustion Therapy

Moxibustion on SJ 14 point for 5 to 10 minutes, or 3 to 5 unit.
