Shangqu acupoint(KI 17) belongs to the kidney meridian of Foot-Shaoyin, which commonly used for stomach pain, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, diarrhea, constipation and abdominal mass.

What is the meaning of Shangqu

“Shangqu”:”Shang”,refers to clepsydra or water clock,an ancient timing tool. “Qu” refers to secret. The name of “Shangqu” means that the Chongmai Qi of kidney meridian slowly rise after absorbing heat. The substance of this acupoint is the water dampness-qi that rises from these acupoints below Huangshu point. After reaching the point, it dissipates heat and shrinks. A small part of the water-qi absorbs heat and travels upwards. It is difficult to be noticed like clepsydra,hence the name.

Stomach pain, abdominal pain, abdominal mass,bloating, diarrhea, constipation and other gastrointestinal diseases.

Shangqu Point Therapy and Precautions

Moxibustion therapy

Moxibustion on Shangqu points with moxa sticks for 5-20 minutes, once a day,which can relieve  abdominal mass etc other diseases.

Gua Sha therapy

Scrape the Shangqu point from top to bottom for 3-5 minutes, once every other day to relieve diarrhea and constipation.

Massage therapy

Use thumb to press and knead Shangqu acupoint for 100-200 times, it can treat abdominal pain if long-term massaging;

Combined with Dachangshu point and Tianshu point to relieve diarrhea and dysentery;

Combined with Zhongwan point and Daheng point to relieve abdominal pain and bloating;
